Shingo Inao (Chiba,1980)

Inao studied sound installation and computer music with Susumu Shono and Takayuki Rai receiving a B.F.A. from Kunitachi College of Music. He then studied media art at Hochschule fuer Gestaltung, Karlsruhe, Germany, and received an M.A. In sound installation and performance from Bauhaus University Weimar, under the guidance of Robin Minard.


He received awards from Phonurgia Nova (2008, France) and DAAD (2008, Germany).
His installations have been presented at ArtForum Berlin, at the Contemporary Museum in Weimar, TiefKLANG sound festival Berlin, ROMA artfair Rome, General Public Berlin, Galerie Eigenheim Weimar (solo show), Imprimerie Basel, Mildred Lane Kemper Musem St. Louis, and Galerie Birgit Ostermeier Berlin (solo show).


As performer he often uses his self-made instrument “Tosso,” a bowed instrument that reacts to physical movement. Performances were given at MANI.FEST II Weimar, ZKM Karlsruhe, Leipjazzig Leipzig, Blauer Salon, Berlin, Electronic Church Berlin, M12 Berlin, General Public Berlin, Karlsruhe University of Arts, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop, Gare du Nord Basel, RE/ACT Heidelberg.
